Riding alone in Tuscany

Updated: Jul 26, 2022

Don't stop the feeling of a morning ride.

Zona Rossa arrived again in Tuscany, meaning group rides are forbidden, shops are closed, and we go back to this time and space where everything feels blocked.

It has been over a year since the pandemia started in Italy; honestly, it has been exhausting. Too much control over people, too many restrictions but very few solutions. However, the Italian spirit is something that personally helps me to relax, and they give me hope and the feeling that life is easy.

Allora? Well, yesterday was one of these days where I decided to go for a ride, but where should I go, I asked myself?

I took my bike and headed to Impruneta. While riding, I felt the joy and happiness of still having the chance to bike and go out for a ride. I had a breath of fresh air and looked at the views, thinking this was just such a bizarre situation felt trapped in my thoughts, but at the same time, I felt the luckiest to go out and enjoy it.

So I was just there pedaling, enjoying the sun, the breeze, and the sounds of nature that are so reviving and beautiful and transport you entirely to that present moment of contact with yourself, grounding you and letting you be.

I read that doing sports in the middle of nature has a memorable impact on our brain, and I agree. The green color of the landscape and the blue skies are the perfect combinations to feel calm, and that is one of Tuscany's most magical gifts: its nature.

When I arrived in the main town, I stopped at my favorite coffee shop to have a coffee and a cornetto and just stayed there observing.

I love to watch people and how they behave; I wanted to understand how others were dealing with a situation like this, and to my surprise, I found that they were just themselves. They were fed up and tired, complaining about the rules, the limitations, and their Italian way.

Hearing ... Ma Baffanculo! Made me realize I was not going insane. But I was sure I wanted to keep enjoying this country, that everything has an end. The Italian way of living fascinates me, and I knew it was worth staying.

Biking that morning helped me to realize all of this and gave me hope to keep it up during the tough days.
